Leros Association Honours Two Mothers for Service and Strength

Women Without Borders Leros held a well-attended event at the Xenonas restaurant in Alinda on 10 May 2026, honouring two mothers whose different life stories were described as examples of contribution, dignity and strength.

The association's president, Anna Tachliampouri, had announced several days earlier that the board had voted unanimously to recognise the two women.

The first recipient was Katerina Mavroudi, whom Ms Tachliampouri described as a jewel of the Municipality of Leros Philharmonic because of her substantial contribution to the island's musical life.

Ms Mavroudi is a music educator, music therapist and conductor. She studied at the Ionian University and completed postgraduate specialist training in music therapy at ArtEZ University of the Arts.

She has taught in schools and music organisations in Greece and abroad. She is now the founder of the Embrace Your Music workshop and serves as conductor and music teacher with the Leros Municipal Philharmonic.

The second recipient was Eirini Atmatzidi, the mother of a girl who has faced a difficult journey and severe mobility problems.

Her award carried a particularly human message, recognising the daily effort of a mother who supports her child with dignity and inner strength.

The event highlighted two different but equally important forms of contribution: service through education, music and culture, and the quiet strength of a mother facing a demanding struggle every day.

Ms Tachliampouri said some people enter our lives quietly, modestly and heroically, writing their own story. At the event on 10 May, those stories were honoured with the respect they deserved.

The accompanying report was produced by Nikos Ignatidis.
