A second large pine tree has been brought down by severe weather on the Greek island of Leros in the space of just a few days, raising concerns about the safety of trees alongside local roads.

The latest incident occurred in the Gourna area, following a period of adverse weather conditions across the island.

Photographs obtained by Leros News show the tree leaning heavily towards the road, with large branches extending over the carriageway and obstructing the safe passage of vehicles.

The technical services department of Leros Municipality responded promptly, removing the fallen tree and clearing the road to restore traffic.

The two incidents in quick succession have highlighted the potential value of a precautionary inspection of pine trees in the area by a qualified specialist, to identify any structural weaknesses or other issues that could pose a risk to road users.
