The Municipality of Leros informed residents that the official fire-prevention season had begun and would remain in force until 31 October.
The municipality said particular care was required from everyone during this period to protect the natural environment, property and public safety.
Fire-season rules and responsibilities
- Burning dry grass, branches and agricultural waste is prohibited.
- Lighting fires in the countryside is prohibited without the required permits and safety measures.
- Owners must clear plots immediately of dry grass and flammable material.
- Anyone who sees smoke or fire should notify the Fire Service immediately.
The municipality said protecting Leros is a shared responsibility. The notice was signed by mayor Timotheos Kottakis.
