The island of Leros faced an unexpected ordeal last night (21 May 2025), when around 12:20 am a fire broke out in the kitchen of the well-known and beloved El Greco restaurant in Lakki.
Despite the sudden and serious nature of the incident, thanks to the prompt response of the Leros Police and Fire Service, the fire was quickly brought under control, preventing any further spread.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, raising questions given that the establishment is equipped with modern fire prevention systems.
The owner, Mr Dimitris Karpathakis, warmly thanked the authorities for their swift intervention, as well as the hundreds of friends and customers who showed unwavering support and concern.
The restaurant is expected to reopen within a week. Mr Karpathakis remains optimistic and committed to continuing to provide high-quality gastronomic experiences to both residents and visitors of the island.
On behalf of Leros News, we send our best wishes and strength to our friend “Patimenos,” and its staff.
