With the enthusiastic participation of 177 individuals (parents, athletes, and coaches), the Rhodes Sports Academy sets off today for the beautiful island of Leros. The trip is part of the initiative “A Different Island Each Year,” which offers people of all ages the opportunity to discover the islands of the Dodecanese up close.
As part of this excursion, friendly matches will be held in the Academy’s core age groups, specifically in basketball, against Panionios Leros, and in football, against the local football team A.E. Leros.
Moreover, following an agreement between the presidents of the two clubs, a friendly basketball match for men over 30 will also take place, aiming to encourage broader community participation in the sport. This reflects a long-standing tradition in Rhodes, where open and corporate basketball leagues have been successfully organised for many years.
It is worth noting that among the participants from the Rhodes Sports Academy are seven active players from the 4th Open Corporate Basketball League in Rhodes, joining the trip as parents or guardians of the Academy’s young athletes.
The trip is led by the President of the Rhodes Sports Academy, Mr Georgios Stavrianakis, and alongside the sporting activities, all participants will have the chance to enjoy local hospitality in Leros’s tavernas and shops, and to explore the island’s key attractions—including the Castle, the War Museum, Agios Efstratios, and Kavouradena.
The group departs on Saturday, 10 May, aboard the Dodekanisos Express, and will stay for two nights at the Crithoni’s Paradise Hotel. The return journey to Rhodes is scheduled for the afternoon of Monday, 12 May, on the same vessel.
