On Wednesday, 7 May 2025, at the initiative of the local media, the Mayor of Leros, Mr Timotheos Kottakis, along with the municipal councillors of the majority, held a press conference, responding to questions concerning current affairs on the island.
This particular press conference is considered especially important, as both the Mayor, Mr Kottakis, and the present municipal councillors referred to the conduct of opposition leader Mr Michalis Kolias and certain members of his group during the past seventeen months.
In addition, the Mayor Kottakis and the majority councillors addressed the non-approval of the third revision of the Budget and the Technical Programme of the Municipality of Leros by the Kolias Opposition group, a revision that included a number of particularly important projects for the island, such as:
- the construction of a new swimming pool in Xirokampos,
- the development of a sewerage network in Temenia, Xirokampos and the Leros Reception and Identification Centre (RIC),
- the maintenance of desalination units,
- the restoration and upkeep of the windmill in Agia Marina,
- the repair and maintenance of the “RADIO” building in Agkyra,
- and the construction of four classrooms at the Bellenio Gymnasium, among many other significant infrastructure projects.
It is worth noting that representatives of the local media, including LEROS NEWS for the second time, issued an open invitation to members of the Opposition party, offering them the opportunity to respond to the points raised in the press conference.
