A fire that broke out on Tuesday afternoon (13 May 2025) on a plot of land near a residential area in Leros was brought under full control thanks to the immediate mobilisation of the Fire Service and local authorities.

The intervention of firefighters, volunteers, and the Municipality’s Technical Service was decisive in preventing the fire from spreading and averting any threat to human lives or property.

Mayor of Leros, Timotheos Kottakis, has publicly expressed his gratitude to all involved agencies for their efforts in extinguishing the Lakki blaze, and reminded residents that we are now firmly within the fire‐prevention season, during which outdoor burning is strictly prohibited.

The Leros Mayor’s Letter of Thanks

“Earlier this afternoon, a fire broke out on a plot of land near a residential area in Lakki, which was fortunately brought under control very quickly. Once again, the swift response of our Fire Service, volunteer firefighters, our Technical Service, and numerous volunteers was crucial.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to them and remind everyone that we are now in the fire prevention period, and lighting fires outdoors is strictly prohibited by law. Let us all remain vigilant to ensure everyone’s safety”.
