Leros Mayor, Mr. Timotheos Kottakis, returns to the island with a full agenda following a series of meetings in Rhodes with interim and institutional officials.
The schedule involved numerous services, numerous topics, and numerous projects. The Mayor held meetings with:

Mr. Nikos Lyberopoulos, Head of the General Directorate of Infrastructure for the South Aegean Region.

Mr. Christos Gambroudis, General Director of the South Aegean Solid Waste Management Agency (FODSA).

The Ephorate of Antiquities of the Dodecanese.

The Service of Modern Monuments & Technical Works of the Dodecanese.

The Directorate of Forests of the Dodecanese.
-
The Water Department of the Dodecanese.

The Department of Environment and Spatial Planning of the Dodecanese.

The Department of Environmental Sustainability of the Dodecanese.

The Directorate of Primary Sector of the Dodecanese.
The purpose of all these meetings, discussions, and briefings was the planning and coordination for the implementation of the following initiatives and projects:

Construction of a sanitary landfill for residual waste (SLRW).

Sewage system for Xirokambos, Temenia and the Closed Controlled Access Centre (KED) (€2,940,000.00 / c. £2.5m).

Restoration works for Lakki port, which is already under construction (€995,000.00 / c. £840,000).

Construction of a new road lighting system in the Partheni Dam area, alongside the removal of the previous illegal and dangerous installation which lacked proper design. Work is scheduled to begin in late September and be completed by early November.

Road network reconstruction project spanning 10.5 kilometres. The tender process is being monitored closely, with the deadline for submission of bids from prospective contractors set for 8 September.

Establishing a timeline for the completion and delivery of the ‘Tourist Vessel Mooring at Alinda, Leros’ project.
The meetings were aimed at planning and coordinating significant infrastructure and development projects for the island, concerning the environment, transport, networks, and tourist development.
Among the projects currently in progress or imminently starting are the sewage system for Xirokambos, Temenia and the Closed Controlled Access Centre, the reconstruction of a section of the road network, the completion of Lakki port, the creation of a sanitary landfill, and the tourist vessel mooring facility at Alinda.

“Departed from Leros yesterday afternoon by catamaran for Rhodes. Returning shortly to Leros from Rhodes via Blue Star ferry.”
