Swift response by the authorities – Firefighters, municipal staff, YNTEL and military personnel join forces in the operation
The wildfire that broke out on the morning of Tuesday, 13 May 2025 in the Lakki area of Leros has been successfully brought under control, following a prompt response that prevented further spread and damage.
The fire started for reasons that remain unknown at this time. Emergency services were immediately mobilised and arrived at the scene within minutes, containing the blaze swiftly.
The firefighting effort involved personnel from the Leros Fire Brigade, the Municipal Technical Services Department, the Leros Naval Technical Facilities Service (YNTEL), and military staff, all of whom acted in a coordinated and effective manner.
Thanks to the rapid intervention and seamless cooperation of all agencies involved, the fire was contained without endangering homes or human lives, and material damage was kept to a minimum.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Fire Service.
