Fotis Giannakos, advisor to the Dodecanese Chamber of Commerce and owner of Gourna Taverna in Leros, stands as a shining example of an active citizen and socially conscious entrepreneur.
Taking personal initiative and bearing the expense himself, Giannakos organised the cleaning of Gourna Beach, ahead of the summer season.
Gourna Beach, one of the largest on Leros, is a key destination for locals and visitors alike. As Mr. Giannakos emphasises, his primary concern is ensuring it remains clean and welcoming for everyone.
“We’ve begun cleaning our beach (a privileged spot) to prepare for umbrellas and sunbeds! Gourna Beach is the largest on the island, and our top priority is keeping it pristine!” he noted in a social media post.
Giannakos’ initiative highlights the importance of individual contributions to Leros’ image, particularly in areas heavily reliant on tourism.
At the start of the island’s tourist season, where infrastructure and presentation play a decisive role, such actions set an example worthy of emulation, not just for the local community but beyond!
