Modern surgical bed and specialised operating lights donated by the owner of Pegasus Airlines – By decision of the Board of Directors of the Leros Hospital, a donation of €115,000 from entrepreneur Ali Sabancı, owner of Pegasus Airlines, has been accepted.
Report: Nikos Ignatidis
According to the decision, the donation will cover the procurement of a modern surgical bed and specialised operating-theatre lighting, substantially strengthening the infrastructure of the hospital’s surgical clinic.
“Gratitude” for the night a life was saved
Mr Sabancı expressed his profound gratitude to the medical and nursing staff of Leros Hospital for their crucial contribution on that difficult night, when he received the first, life-saving medical care.
Special mention was made of surgeon Mr Georgios Krasonikolakis who, as noted, “fought” to keep him alive.
Procedural steps completed
Through the good friend of the island, Mr Mehmet Baser, the final procedural matters were settled today in the office of the KTHL Director, Mr Stamatis Kardasis, so the donation can be implemented immediately and the relevant procurements can proceed. The total cost of the intervention is expected to exceed €115,000.
Family in good health
Mr Sabancı himself and members of his family are recovering and are in very good condition, having endured a traumatic experience they say they will not forget.
According to the same information, Mr Sabancı is expected to visit Leros soon in order to express his thanks in person for the support he received from the medical staff and the island’s hospital.
