With the participation of young and old, associations, residents and volunteers, an organised cleaning action of the coasts and surrounding areas took place on the morning of Saturday, October 31, 2026, in Lepida, Leros.

The initiative was taken byWar Museum "Deposito di Guerra - Ioannis Paraponiaris", as part of the European campaign#EUBeachCleanup 2026, with the approval of the Administration of the State Hospital - General Hospital - Leros Health Centre and the 2nd Health Region.

The participants gathered in the area of Lepida and proceeded to remove waste from the beach front, contributing to the cleaning of an area of particular historical importance for the island.

They also participated in the effortguests of the Closed Controlled Structure of Leros, volunteering their help, while the Governor of the Leros Hospital, Stamatis Kardassis, was also "present".

The area where the intervention took place is linked to the operation of the former Italian seaplane base and the subsequent history of the Leros Psychiatric Hospital.

The action combined the protection of the marine environment with the care of an important historical site, while highlighting the possibility of cooperation between different groups of the local society.
