Strong September Tourism on Leros, but Summer Ferry Gap Remains

The necessity to launch a regular ferry to Leros every Friday, during the summer months, since in July and August the island faced a problem with the movement of travelers, but also of goods, was highlighted once again by the vice-president of the Tourism Department of the Dodecanese Chamber (EBED), vice-president of the Leros Hoteliers' Union and member of the Dod/sou Tourist Offices' Union,Thodoris Asvestas, speaking to Real Voice 99.5 and the show "Together at 10" with Natasha Pambri.

Mr. Asvestas emphasized that it is unthinkable to have a route in the winter and for businessmen to wait for goods and supplies from Thursday to Sunday during the summer months, at the peak of the tourist season, when the island is bustling with tourism.

"We have to fight, I say it again, regarding the ships from Piraeus to Leros. In this we want the help of both the South Aegean Region and our President of the Chamber, Yannis Pappous. We have to take a position. In the business world we have a serious problem in August and July when this route is cut. From Thursday you cannot have a ship after Sunday morning. That is, in the winter we have more itineraries, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday should be the boat and in the summer we should have it from Thursday to Sunday. This is not possible", as he said.

With reference to the ongoing tourist season, the occupancy rates in Leros are also impressive this month, according to him, with alternative, sports tourism, etc., since cycling races with 80 athletes, athletics races, etc. follow, while other events preceded them.

Mr. Asvestas added that July and August were excellent tourist months for the island, while the excellent September comes to cover the damage of May, which was a disappointing month for the market and small hotel accommodations. In addition, he pointed out that the Turkish visitors from the opposite coast who chose Leros for their holidays made a difference, significantly stimulating the local economy.

Financial support of 5,000 euros from the Chamber of Dodecanese

Mr. Asvestas also referred to the financial aid amounting to5,000 euros secured by the Chamber of Dodecanese, following a relevant request for the support of organisations and clubs of Leros.

The amount will be allocated to support the Volunteer Firefighters of Leros, the KPEA "Artemis" and the Commercial Association of Leros.

The proposal for granting the aid was made byDeputy Regional Governor Apostolos Asprakis,while the processing of the request was undertaken by the deputy president of the Tourism Department of the Dodecanese Chamber, Theodoros Asvestas and the president of the Trade Association and chamber advisor, Yiannis Themelaros. At the meeting, all EBED councilors from Leros voted (Theodoros Asvestas, Fotis Giannakos, Yiannis Themelaros and Petros Constantaras).

Crowded mission of the Harley-Davidson Club Hellas in Leros

The island of Leros welcomed from September 16 to 20 a large delegation - members of the Harley-Davidson Club Hellas for the Aegean Party Leros 2026.

According to Mr. Asvesta, 35 machines and approximately 90 members and attendants were found in Leros, attracting the eyes of residents and visitors with their impressive machines.

"The only island they chose this year was Leros for a 4-day excursion, as an alternativetourism”, as he said.
