Greece's national meteorological service (EMY) has updated its severe weather warning, with the Dodecanese islands among the areas expected to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms through Monday, 2 November.

The revised forecast, issued on Sunday, 1 November 2026, indicates that unsettled conditions will continue across western and northern Greece and parts of the eastern Aegean, with isolated hailstorms also possible.

Forecasters say the latest assessment brings no significant changes to the original warning issued on Saturday.

Dodecanese braced for further thunderstorms

The Dodecanese, including the island of Leros, remain under a warning for locally heavy rainfall and thunderstorms throughout Sunday.

Conditions are expected to remain unsettled on Monday, with further spells of heavy rain and thunderstorms possible until late in the evening.

Although the warning covers the Dodecanese as a whole, the meteorological service has not provided island-specific estimates of the severity of the storms.

On Leros, the local coastguard has already issued an urgent notice placing personnel and patrol vessels on heightened alert.

Fishing associations and sailing clubs have also been advised to avoid activities at sea while the severe weather warning remains in force.

Other parts of Greece affected

According to EMY, the following areas are expected to experience severe weather:

Sunday, 1 November

  • Central and eastern Macedonia, where heavy rain and thunderstorms could continue until late at night.
  • The northern and eastern Aegean islands, with storms expected to persist into the night.
  • The Dodecanese islands, where locally severe thunderstorms are forecast.

Monday, 2 November

  • The Ionian Islands, with heavy rainfall expected from around midday.
  • Epirus, western Central Greece and the western and southern Peloponnese, particularly coastal areas, from the afternoon onwards.
  • The Dodecanese, where thunderstorms could continue intermittently until late at night.

Emergency services placed on alert

Greece's Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection has confirmed that regional authorities, municipalities and emergency services have been notified and instructed to maintain a heightened state of readiness.

Residents and visitors are being urged to take precautions, particularly in areas vulnerable to flash flooding.

Civil protection officials advise against driving through flooded roads or crossing streams and waterways during heavy rainfall. People are also encouraged to secure loose outdoor objects and avoid unnecessary outdoor or maritime activities during thunderstorms.

The warning comes as the islands prepare for another spell of potentially disruptive weather, with local authorities monitoring developments and coordinating precautionary measures.

Residents of Leros and the wider Dodecanese are advised to follow official forecasts and local emergency announcements, as conditions may change and further updates could be issued.
