The Indoor Gymnasium of Merikia is being upgraded into a multi-purpose sports and culture venue, according to the presentation held on Sunday, March 1, 2026 by Mayor Timotheus Kottakis and the project's researchers.
As mentioned, the project is not limited to the energy upgrade of the building, but also includes substantial interventions that change the function of the space, so that it can host more activities.
Among other things, the following are provided for:
- Replacing the parquet.
- Supply of a special carpet to be placed over the parquet, so that the space can also be used for concerts or other events.
- Alterations/configuration to accommodate tennis and volleyball matches in addition to existing uses.
- Gym equipment
- Additional interventions presented by the researchers in the context of the overall upgrade.
You can see the presentation in the video below, edited by Nikos Ignatidis.
