A large crowd joined the Municipality of Leros event Walk Together for Autism, which began at Lakki Primary School at 11am on Sunday 26 April.
Residents, children, associations, institutional representatives and members of the Municipal Council added their voices and footsteps to a message of awareness, equal opportunity and inclusion for autistic children and their families.
The strong public response demonstrated practical support within the Leros community for initiatives centred on people, acceptance and respect for difference.
Mayor Timotheos Kottakis represented the municipal authority. Deputy mayor Vasiliki Evangelou and municipal councillor Eleni Chelmi were also present.
Participants included Dodecanese Chamber of Commerce adviser Fotis Giannakos and Panhellenic Union of Lerians representative Petros Sifounios, who spoke to Leros News, along with municipal councillors and representatives of island associations and organisations.
The walk ended at PIKPA square, where activities for children took place in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Leros sent a clear message: no child and no family is alone. Inclusion is not a slogan but a way of life.
