Leros Marks 83 Years Since the Sinking of Destroyer Vasilissa Olga

The Committee for Culture and Information of The Municipality of Leros and the Private Museum "DEPOSITO DI GUERRA - IOANNIS PARAPONIARIS" invite you to a special event of historical awakening and honor, on Saturday September 26, 2026, at 18:00, at the Municipal Library of The Municipality of Leros.

This year, we celebrate the 83rd anniversary ofsinking of the legendary destroyer "Queen Olga"in the port of Lakki of Leros (September 26, 1943), one of the most glorious and at the same time tragic pages of the modern history of our island.

As part of the event, which is open to the public, the historical archive documentaries of the state television ERT "Leros.

The Fortress of the Aegean" (Year of production: 1986) and "A forgotten legend: The story of the survivors of the "Olga"" (Year of production: 1995), total duration of one hour.

At the same time, there will be a small exhibition space with objects mentioned or connected to the glorious destroyer, from the museum's collection "Deposito Di Guerra - Ioannis Paraponiaris".

The event will conclude with a reading of the memory of a survivor of the shipwreck, by Sevasti Diakou.
