Leros Hospital Unions Call for More Staff and Safer Public Services

GENERAL ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION

WE DON'T FORGET – WE DON'T FORGIVE, EITHER THEIR PROFITS OR OUR LIVES

The General Assemblies of the Union of Doctors and the Union of Employees of the State Hospital of Leros, on the occasion of the completion of three years since the crime of Tempi that claimed the lives of 57 people, we declare that:

This crime was no accident. It was the result of a policy that treats human life as a cost and sacrifices security, infrastructure and public services on the altar of profit, commercialisation and privatisation.

The same causes that led to the tragedy are still active today. They take place every day in workplaces without protective measures, in infrastructure that function marginally and in public services that are underfunded and understaffed.

In the field of Health, we experience the consequences of this policy every day. In the Leros Hospital, the lack of basic specialties, the exhaustion of the staff, the constant transfers of patients and the operation of infrastructure at the limits of their endurance are a constant risk for patients and employees.

These are not "diseases" nor "isolated problems". It is the result of specific choices that transform Health from a social right into a commodity.

Healthcare workers know firsthand that when protecting life conflicts with cost, the system chooses the cost. This reality cannot be accepted.

WE DECIDE – WE CLAIM

• To attribute all political and criminal responsibilities for the crime of Tempe.
• Stop the policy that degrades public infrastructure and services.
• Immediate reinforcement of the Leros Hospital with permanent staff of all specialties.
• Full state funding of Public Health. Exclusive, public and free health for all, without any business activity.
• Safety measures in all workplaces and on all public transport.
• Public and safe infrastructure based on social needs and not profit.

WE ARE CALLING

All health workers, workers and youth to participate en masse in the gathering of the Unions.
