Leros Attracts Digital Nomads Seeking an Authentic Aegean Base

Leros is dynamically entering the emerging map of Greek destinations for digital nomads, attracting professionals from abroad who combine telecommuting with the quality of life of an authentic Aegean island.

The related report by Alpha presents two people with different paths, who found in Leros more than a beautiful place of temporary residence.

Mina Boustani is originally from Iran, lives in London and works as a strategic data and artificial intelligence analyst. He has been travelling and working remotely for a decade, having visited more than 50 countries.

He arrived in Leros three years ago for a week of yoga. That first visit was enough for him to decide that he didn't just want to return, but to live on the island. Today he describes a daily life that begins with yoga, a view of the sea and coffee from people whom he describes as particularly kind.

As she says, the calm atmosphere of Leros has even positively affected her professional performance, helping her manage stress better. Although she does not speak Greek, she feels included in the local community, thanks to the human contact and the hospitality of the residents.

The path of the Austrian Siji Ertl, an executive of a multinational pharmaceutical industry, is different. He was looking for a house in the Dodecanese when a friend suggested Leros. He visited the island, fell in love with it and has been working from there for the last five months, experiencing the digital nomad experience for the first time.

From his office he has a view of the sea and the island landscape, a view that he explains helps him relax when work gets demanding. For him, the ability to combine his professional obligations with tranquility and natural beauty is an important advantage.

The Leros Way Project also contributes to the development of this new tourism model. The co-creator of the venture, Marietta Kasti, refers to the creation of the Hub, a collaborative workspace aimed at people who work remotely. At the same time, the programme gives visitors the opportunity to get to know Leros through activities and experiences that bring them closer to the local community.

Attracting digital nomads can be a significant opportunity for Leros, as these are visitors who are not limited to the peak summer months. Their long stay can contribute to the lengthening of the tourist season and the strengthening of local businesses throughout the year.
