ERT1 Documentary Reveals Leros through the Stories of Its People

Television presenter Ina Tarantou filming stories of island life on Leros

A special television tribute to Leros will be broadcast on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 15:00, by ERT1, through the show "What's Worth It" with Ina Tarandou. Entitled "Leros, from the beginning", the show attempts to highlight a different side of the island, putting stereotypes aside and giving the floor to the people who have linked their lives to it.

The well-known journalist and presenter travels to Leros and meets people with different paths, experiences and interests, who share personal stories, memories and thoughts about their place.

According to ERT's official presentation, the episode focuses on stories of life, creation, memory and optimism, highlighting the human side of an island that has much more than what is captured in an ordinary travel guide.

The people of Leros star in the show

Among the people Ina Tarantou meets are Nikos and Lousi, a couple who share a love for art and decided to leave Athens to settle permanently in Leros.

The two talk about their decision to change their lifestyle, their creative path, but also about a serious health adventure that made them redefine their priorities.

The show also features Mr. Yiannis, cattle breeder, traditional tsabouna musician and retired nurse. Through his memories unfold the difficult years of his childhood, his long-term contribution to the Leros Hospital and his love for music, family and the simple joys of everyday life.

Savvas, a sailor and fisherman, also has a special place in the tribute, who narrates his experiences from his travels in the seas of the world until his return to Leros. His personal story highlights the deep bond of the island's inhabitants with the sea and the maritime tradition.

The musical tradition and art of Leros

Ina Tarandou also meets two brothers, Savvas and Antonis, who continue the family musical tradition.

Raised with the sounds and festivals of the island, they talk about their mother, who brought them together to music, and about the importance of preserving the cultural heritage of Leros.

The tribute also presents the story of Eva, an artist and therapist, who has connected her creative journey with art, travel and getting to know different cultures. Through her personal experience she presents Leros as a place of calm, inspiration and inner search.

A different TV projection for Leros

The show "What It's Worth" does not follow the traditional format of a tourist special with an exclusive emphasis on beaches and attractions.

Instead, the programme seeks to understand each place through its people, their memories, the difficulties they faced and the choices that determined their lives.

For Leros, appearing on ERT1 is another opportunity for nationwide exposure, this time through the personal stories of its residents and the elements that shape its special identity.

The episode"Leros, from the beginning" will be broadcast on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 15:00, by ERT1, presented by Ina Tarantou and directed by Michalis Felani.
