Additional Piraeus Ferry Service Sought for Leros

Passenger ferry serving Leros and Piraeus

In an important parliamentary intervention to the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, Manos Konsolas proceeded to strengthen and upgrade the ferry connection of Leros.

THEDodecanese Member of Parliamentfocuses on the gap that exists in the itineraries connecting Leros with Piraeus from Wednesday to Saturday since there is no ferry connection with Piraeus on these days.

"This has the effect of not being able to serve residents and visitors, but also of problems in the uninterrupted supply of the island, the needs of which are noticeably increased during the tourist season.

At the same time, there is a problem with guest reservations since there is a long time gap in the itineraries during the week, while air tickets are limited due to the high demand of the summer period", as he emphasizes.

Manos Konsolas, in addition to strengthening the ferry connection between Leros and Piraeus with another route after Wednesday and until Saturday, also raises the issue of upgrading the quality of the ferry connection between Leros and Piraeus, especially during the tourist season.

As he mentions, the quality upgrade can come with the routing of a high-speed ferry that will dramatically reduce the access time to Leros and boost the tourist flow to the island.

This proposal echoes the positions and opinions of the Chamber and local bodies, while it has already been expressed publicly as a request of the local community.

The following is the full text of the new parliamentary intervention of Manos Konsolas in which he requests the strengthening of the ferry connection of Leros with new routes:

E R O T H S H

To

Chief Minister of Shipping and Island Policy

SUBJECT: "Strengthening the ferry connection of Leros"

Mr. Minister,

Leros is one of the dynamically developing tourist destinations in the northern group of the Dodecanese.

The maintenance of this dynamic requires the improvement of the ferry connection between the island and Piraeus, as well as its quality upgrade.

At the present stage there is a gap from Wednesday to Saturday since there is no ferry connection with Piraeus on these days.

This has the result of not being able to serve residents and visitors, but also of problems in the uninterrupted supply of the island, the needs of which are noticeably increased during the tourist season.

At the same time, there is a problem with guest bookings since there is a long time gap in the itineraries within the week and air tickets are limited due to the high demand of the summer season.

In addition to strengthening the ferry connection between Leros and Piraeus with one more route after Wednesday and until Saturday, we should also look, as a priority, at the issue of upgrading the quality of the ferry connection between Leros and Piraeus, especially during the tourist season.

This can happen with the routing of a high-speed ferry that will dramatically reduce the access time to Leros and boost the tourist flow to the island.

Following the above

The Prime Minister is asked

1. What is the Ministry's plan regarding the strengthening of the ferry connection of Leros and its quality upgrade?

The Questioning Member of Parliament
